Our team of highly experienced and skilled professionals includes endocrinologists, credentialed diabetes educators, accredited practicing dieticians, podiatrists, exercise physiologists and clinical psychologists.

Dr Joey Kaye MBBS FRACP PhD

Clinical Director and Co-Founder

  • Dr Kaye is Clinical Director of Living Diabetes & Endocrinology and a consultant endocrinologist and Director of Diabetes Services at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He completed his diabetes and endocrinology advanced training in WA before undertaking a PhD in stress neuroendocrinology at the Henry Wellcome Laboratories for Integrative Neuroscience and Endocrinology, Bristol, UK. Dr Kaye is the vice chair of Diabetes Research WA, a board member of Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre and The Keogh Institute for Medical Research. He is a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia and has over 15 years’ experience in private practice in Perth. Dr Kaye’s special interest is with people living with Type 1 diabetes and diabetes technology including continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery systems.

    Dr Kaye is a passionate competitor in endurance sports and has worked with many athletes who live with diabetes to compete at all levels.

    It is Dr Kaye’s vision for Living Diabetes & Endocrinology that we all share and work together to provide for the improved care of Western Australians.

Dr Michael Hancock BPharm, MD, FRACP

Endocrinologist

  • Dr Hancock brings a comprehensive, expert approach to the management of diabetes and its complications, informed by his personal experience living with type 1 diabetes. His practice integrates optimal use of cutting-edge technologies including continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery, along with tailored dietary and exercise strategies, including those employing lower carbohydrate approaches. 

    Metabolic Health & Obesity: He has an interest in the management of obesity and lipid abnormalities, and strategies to improve overall metabolic health.

    Transitioning Care for Young Adults: Having completed a fellowship year at Perth Children’s Hospital, Dr Hancock understands the challenges faced by young adults and families transitioning into early adulthood and utilising the adult healthcare system and has a particular interest in managing the long-term care of patients with diabetes and the endocrine complications associated with cancer survivorship.

    General Endocrine: The management of thyroid, adrenal, pituitary disorders.

Dr Nicole Lafontaine MBBS, BMedSci, FRACP

Endocrinologist

  • Dr Nicole Lafontaine is a consultant endocrinologist who graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed her specialist training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Eastern Health. She relocated to Perth to further her research interests and is completing a PhD at the University of Western Australia. Her PhD is focused on thyroid hormone physiology and autoimmune thyroid disease, including Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s disease.

    Dr Nicole has contributed to research in diabetes, pituitary, parathyroid and thyroid disease, with her findings presented at both national and international conferences and published in multiple peer-reviewed journals.

    She is dedicated to comprehensive endocrine care and manages all general endocrine conditions with special interests in diabetes (type 1, type 2 and gestational), thyroid disorders, metabolic bone disorders, weight management and women’s health. Dr Nicole is passionate about providing her patients with the most up-to-date medical information, working collaboratively to develop personalised care plans that suit their individual needs and circumstances.

Dr Vijay Panicker MBBS, FRACP, PhD

Endocrinologist

  • Dr Vijay Panicker has worked as a consultant endocrinologist in Perth and the United Kingdom since 2010. He currently works at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and in private practice at Hollywood Hospital. He is a University of Western Australia medical school graduate who did his advanced training in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Fremantle Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital before moving to Bristol in the United Kingdom, to do a PhD on the genetics of thyroid function and thyroid hormone replacement.

    In addition to a busy clinical practice in public and private, he is a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia and he continues to do research in the area of thyroid genetics as well as being involved in teaching and assessment of medical students. He is an Educational Supervisor for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians helping to train both basic physician trainees and endocrinology trainees. He is an associate editor for Thyroid Research a Springer Nature medical journal.

    Clinically he manages all aspects of general endocrinology and diabetes with a particular interest in thyroid disease and both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. He joins Living Diabetes & Endocrinology hoping to improve the multi-disciplinary care available to people living with diabetes, particularly, people living with type 1 diabetes in Western Australia and to be at the forefront of developing our healthcare system to adapt to changes in diabetes management.

Dr Nely Shrestha Khatri MBBS, FRACP

Endocrinologist

  • Dr. Nely Shrestha Khatri is a Consultant Endocrinologist at Royal Perth Hospital and Rockingham General Hospital. She undertook endocrinology advanced training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital. She underwent further training in obstetric medicine and endocrine disorders in pregnancy at King Edward Memorial Hospital. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Endocrinology in 2018 and Obstetric Medicine Certificate by the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) in 2019.

    She provides care for patients with general endocrine disorders including T1DM, T2DM, thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disease. She has special interest in women’s health, including preconception counselling in women with diabetes and endocrine disorders, menstrual disturbance, menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases.

    Nely has a keen interest in research and has several publications to her name in leading journals.

    Nely is a caring doctor who is thorough and goes the extra mile in ensuring the best care is provided to all her patients. She is passionate about equipping her patients with the latest information, allowing them to make educated decisions about their self-care.

    Outside of work, she enjoys cooking for her family, running, doing Yoga and Pilates.

Endocrinologist

  • Dr Ting is a specialist in endocrinology and geriatric medicine with interests in diabetes, metabolic health and its interactions with frailty as well as osteoporosis. Dr Ting attained his undergraduate medical degree from the International Medical University in Malaysia and completed his advanced training in Endocrinology and Diabetes and Geriatric Medicine in Western Australia. Dr Ting trained under Dr Kaye and is a strong advocate for the comprehensive care model for diabetes. Dr Ting enjoys spending time with his young family, pets and especially when it involves a BBQ with family and friends.

Accredited Practising Dietitian

  • Meet our dedicated dietitian, Andrea Dinkelmann, also known as Andy, who has been practicing since 2015. With a passion for promoting holistic health and wellbeing, Andy strives to help individuals achieve their nutritional goals and live a balanced lifestyle.

    Andy has a degree in dietetics from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and a Master of Public Health degree from Edith Cowan University giving her a deeper understanding of preventive strategies and health promotion.

    Throughout her career, Andy has acquired diverse experience working both as a clinical dietitian and in private practice. She has successfully assisted numerous clients in achieving their health goals, focusing on key areas such as weight loss, diabetes management, high cholesterol, insulin resistance, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Furthermore, Andy possesses valuable expertise in supporting individuals with eating disorders and coeliac disease.

    With a person-centered approach, Andy understands that each individual's journey to wellness is unique. She is dedicated to tailoring personalised nutrition plans that consider her clients' specific needs, preferences, and lifestyle. By incorporating a holistic approach, Andy aims to make healthy habits an integral part of each person's life, ensuring that the changes are sustainable and enjoyable.

David Mitchell MSc, AEP

Exercise Physiologist

  • David is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with two decades of experience. His professional journey is underscored by a profound personal connection to diabetes, having closely witnessed its impact on family members. This has endowed him with a deep understanding of the multifaceted challenges associated with the condition.

    David's compassionate approach characterises his evidence-based practice, as he tailors exercise prescriptions to meet each individual’s needs. The goal is always to improve the mental and physical health of his patients.

    A member of Exercise and Sport Science Australia since 2006, David has a Masters in Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning) and Bachelor of Science (Sports Science & Sports Management). Additionally, he holds multiple certifications: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Certificate III in Fitness, Certificate IV in Fitness, Certificate IV in Massage and Diploma in Management, further enhancing his skill set.

    He formally held the high-profile role as Training Team Captain with the AIF and has 16 years’ experience lecturing Fitness and Nutrition.

    David has applied his recognised skills in strength and conditioning with the East Fremantle Football Club colts and the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) under 17s and 19s state teams.

    A proud father with two primary aged children, David loves nothing more than going for a bike ride, swim, or playing backyard cricket with his family.

Ivana Ferreira BSc. (Hons), PhD, DPM

Accredited Practising Podiatrist

  • In 2015, Ivana completed a PhD in Immunology, delving into the complexities of inflammatory responses in chronic gut health. This research laid a solid foundation for understanding immune-related disorders and their clinical implications.

    Soon after, Ivana completed her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 2016. This training equipped her with specialized skills in diagnosing, treating, and preventing foot, ankle, and lower extremity disorders. Ivana has years of experience in managing diabetes-related foot conditions and a special interest in dermatological conditions.

    Throughout her career, Ivana has contributed to the healthcare field through research publications, conference presentations, and active involvement in professional societies. Her interdisciplinary approach reflects a commitment to enhancing patient well-being and quality of life through innovative healthcare practices.

    Ivana continues to advance medical knowledge through ongoing research, patient care, and education, embodying a dedication to excellence in podiatric medicine.

Fran Leclercq  BNurs (RN) Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE)

Credentialled Diabetes Educator

  • Fran is a Registered Nurse and Credentialled Diabetes Educator having completed her post graduate certificate in diabetes education in 2012. She has extensive experience in both private and public health sectors - her career includes advanced diabetes nursing roles at Perth Children's Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, and St John of God in Murdoch.

    Renowned for her expertise, Fran decided to transition to private practice to enhance accessibility to exceptional care. 
    She is dedicated to providing client-centered, non-judgmental education and advice, and ensures that clients feel supported and understood throughout their diabetes management journey.

    Fran specialises in diabetes technology, and has a wealth of experience in insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring devices and automated systems.

    As a passionate diabetes advocate, Fran is deeply committed to advancing diabetes care and raising awareness. Her advocacy work includes promoting best practices, supporting research, and engaging in community outreach to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes.

Anneika Curtois  RN, CDE

Credentialled Diabetes Educator

  • Anneika has a background working as a Registered Nurse and Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant at St John of God Hospital, Subiaco with extensive experience in the management of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Gestational diabetes and Steroid Induced Hyperglycaemia. Anneika’s passion comes from having Type 1 Diabetes for 27 years and has a strong understanding of the challenges of the condition.

    Anneika has a strong interest in the upcoming Diabetes Technology- insulin pump therapy and Continuous Glucose Monitoring, dietary management with the use of Carbohydrate counting.

  • Daina's exceptional care and commitment has been recognised with her being awarded WA's CDE of the year in 2022.

    With a background in diabetes education at Perth Children's Hospital (formerly Princess Margaret Hospital for Children) Daina has extensive experience working with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes including those that are newly diagnosed and those receiving ongoing management and care.

    She has a keen interest in diabetes technology and is well practiced with insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, flash glucose monitoring and bolus calculators.

    Daina’s interest is in the health and well-being of Living Diabetes & Endocrinology’s patients and being an integral part of their comprehensive care.

  • Carolyn is an experienced clinical practice manager and former teacher of children with impaired hearing and special needs. Carolyn is one of the driving forces behind the establishment of Living Diabetes & Endocrinology and in supporting Dr Kaye in his career, family and sporting activities.

    Carolyn brings the passion, organisational skills and style that makes Living Diabetes & Endocrinology an efficient and enjoyable place to visit and work in. Carolyn has a sibling who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since 1972 and has experienced first-hand the importance of quality care through life.

  • Mark has a sibling who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since 1972 witnessing first-hand the advances and changes in diabetes care over this time. He is passionate about providing the highest level of comprehensive care for people living with any chronic conditions and especially those with any form of diabetes.

    Mark has over 30 years of business experience in Australia, Asia, Europe and North America building and managing businesses. Mark has a special interest in leadership and creating exceptional organisational cultures.

    Mark is responsible for the business operations of Living Diabetes & Endocrinology, enabling Dr Kaye and the team to focus their energies on supporting their patients and achieving their own professional objectives.

If you wish to visit our Allied health professionals (not our specialist endocrinologists) you do not need a referral or healthcare plan. However, if you do get a healthcare plan from your GP you will be eligible to claim a rebate from Medicare. Please contact us to make an appointment.
