Supporting Your Mental
Health and Wellbeing

Our physical and psychological health are closely connected. Living with diabetes, a chronic health condition, or navigating life’s challenges can affect our emotional wellbeing and quality of life.

At Living Diabetes & Endocrinology (LDE), our psychology service provides compassionate, evidence-based care for adults and young adults experiencing psychological, emotional and behavioural challenges.

Whether you are adjusting to a new diagnosis, managing an ongoing health condition or seeking support for mental health concerns, our psychologist can help you develop practical strategies to improve your wellbeing.

Why See a Psychologist?

A psychologist can help you understand and manage the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that influence your mental health and everyday life.

For people living with diabetes or other chronic health conditions, the emotional demands of managing their health can sometimes feel overwhelming. Psychological support can help build resilience, improve confidence and develop effective coping strategies.

Our psychology service is available to anyone seeking support for their mental health and wellbeing, whether or not they have diabetes or another medical condition.

A Collaborative Approach to Your Care

At LDE, we believe good healthcare considers the whole person, not just their medical condition.

Psychology is an important part of our multidisciplinary model of care, complementing the services provided by our endocrinologists, diabetes educators, dietitians and other allied health professionals.

Where appropriate, and with your consent, our psychologist can collaborate with your treating healthcare professionals to support a coordinated approach to your care. All communication and information sharing are managed in accordance with professional confidentiality and privacy obligations.

Psychological care is also available as a standalone service, independently of our other services.

BPsych
Registered Psychologist

Bridget is an experienced Registered Psychologist who works with adults and young adults. Her main areas of interest are diabetes, health and wellbeing, and supporting people through life transitions and adjustment to illness, injury and significant change.

Bridget helps people manage the psychological and emotional challenges that can come with diabetes and other health conditions, including diabetes distress, burnout, anxiety, low mood and adapting to changes in their health. She supports people newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, gestational diabetes (GDM) and Type 2 diabetes, as well as young adults navigating the transition to adulthood while living with diabetes. Her focus is on helping people develop practical strategies, build confidence and resilience, and improve their quality of life. Bridget’s compassionate approach is informed by her own experience living with type 1 diabetes.

She also supports people with metabolic health and setting individual health goals, considering the psychological and behavioural factors that influence motivation, nutrition, physical activity and sustainable lifestyle change.

Bridget provides general psychological therapy for anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, chronic pain, relationship and work-related difficulties, and other life challenges.

Her approach draws on evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, behavioural activation and trauma-focused interventions.

Bridget is an integral part of LDE’s multidisciplinary model of care, working alongside our medical and allied health team to support both the psychological and physical aspects of our patients’ health and wellbeing.
